GOATHLAND

The setting for the popular 1960's based fictional ITV series 'Heartbeat', Goathland is a busy moorland village situated high on the North Yorkshire Moors, 500 feet above sea level.

The history of the village extends back to the days of the Vikings and some age-old curiosities remain to this day.  The most noticeable as you enter the village are the black-faced sheep which hold a common right to graze on the village green and surrounding moorland dating back hundreds of years.

Major attractions to be found within the village are the railway station which forms part of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and whose appearance has changed little since it was first opened in 1865.

Close to the Mallyan Spout Hotel, a footpath offers a pleasant walk to the 70 feet high Mallyan Spout waterfall.
