SUMMER WALKS IN THE DALES
FROM THE YORKSHIRE
DALES NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY NEWSDESK
SUMMER WALKS
IN THE DALES
Grassington, April 28, 2006
Hikers
planning outings in the Yorkshire Dales this summer will be able to take
advantage of a new leaflet promoting a programme of guided walks run in
conjunction with bus services.
It
has been produced by the Yorkshire Dales Sustainable Travel Partnership,
with funding from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority (YDNPA)
and the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Beauty (AONB).
The
leaflet contains details of 52 free guided walks being run by the
Authority and Dalesbus Ramblers from April 30 to September 24 inclusive.
Called
'Summer Walks in the Yorkshire Dales', it encourages hikers to leave
their cars at home and to travel to the starting points by public
transport, taking advantage of the Dales Bus Discount Scheme that offers
savings for ticket holders at many shops, cafes and other businesses. A
list of participating businesses – which display a discount sticker in
the window – is available on the website www.traveldales.org.uk/dalesbus.
Kathryn
Storey, YDNPA Sustainable Tourism Officer, said: “There is nothing
nicer than being out in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in summer – rain
or shine – and this leaflet contains walks for every level of fitness.
“They
range from three miles to 12.5 miles and cover some of the most
beautiful areas of the Yorkshire Dales – and they are completely free.
“We
hope people will forget the car for the day and take advantage of public
transport to travel to the Dales.”
The
leaflets, which also contain details of bus routes and timetables, are
available at selected Tourist Information Centres, National Park
Centres, Park Information Points and in libraries and bus and train
stations. For your free copy, contact Hawes National Park Centre on
01969 666210.
