VANDALS RISK INJURY

Grassington, June 2, 2006

Vandals are putting their lives at risk in Kettlewell and causing worries for Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority staff.

Youngsters have been climbing on the roof of a toilet block in the Authority’s car park in the village and dislodging slates, according to YDNPA Contracts Manager Joyce Whitley.

“We are worried because we don’t want the youngsters falling off and breaking their necks,” she said.

“And there is an added danger to members of the public using the toilets because, if one of the slates was to fall on them, it would cause a serious injury.”

She said the police had been told about the problem and she is now hoping villagers will keep an eye out and report any further vandalism.

“This is not the only National Park car park where we are having trouble,” Joyce said.

“There has also been damage to the toilets in the Clapham and Hawes car parks.”
